Town of Bay Harbor Islands Update - 1:00 pm August 4, 2020

Town Hall & Parks:

  • Town Hall is open for in-person visits.  However, all visitors wishing to enter the lobby area must wear a facial covering and practice social distancing. 
  • If you do plan to come to Town Hall, we always welcome a phone call if you’d like to plan ahead and make an appointment for assistance.   Please reach us at (305) 865-6241. 
  • All Town Parks are now open to our residents only from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., with some restrictions in place, as per Miami-Dade County Emergency order AMENDMENT NO. 3 TO MIAMI-DADE COUNTY EMERGENCY ORDER 21-20.   Facial coverings and ID showing proof of residence are required.  Dogs are allowed only in designated dog parks.
  • The Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 school field and basketball courts remain closed awaiting the school board’s decision.

Early Primary Election Voting Underway: 

  • Early Voting for the August 18, 2020 Primary Election begins today and runs for 14 consecutive days through Sunday, August 16 at 23 convenient locations throughout Miami-Dade County. The full list of Early Voting sites, including hours of operation and addresses can be found on the Elections Department Early Voting page. Voters are reminded not to wait until Election Day to cast their ballot since they can go to any of the 23 sites throughout the Early Voting period, unlike Election Day when they must go to their assigned precinct. Wait times for all 23 sites will be posted on the Elections Department’s website and will be updated throughout the day, so voters can make an informed decision as to when and where is most convenient for them. Voters are also encouraged to review their customized sample ballot to prepare in advance of heading to the polls.  Additionally, voters can drop off their Vote-by-Mail ballot at any Early Voting site without having to go inside the polling place. Voters can drive up to the Official Ballot Drop Box, located outside all 23 Early Voting locations, and drop their Vote-by-Mail ballot into the secure ballot box.  For more information, please visit or call 311.

Upcoming Candidate Forum:

  • The League of Women Voters of Miami-Dade County is proud to be hosting the Town of Bay Harbor Islands Candidate Forum on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. The forum will be moderated by Susannah Nesmith, an award-winning writer, editor, and an investigator for the Miami-Dade County Commission of Ethics and Public Trust.  As the health and safety of the community are paramount during this time, the League of Women Voters of Miami-Dade County will be hosting the Forum via a secure Zoom Webinar. It will also be live streamed on the Town’s website.  Members of the public may submit questions to the candidates via the Zoom platform chat feature as the Forum is being conducted or via email to Questions via email will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on the day of the Forum. $25,000 County Grants for Hospitality Industry and Restaurants: 

  • Home based businesses of any kind, nightclubs, bars, mobile food trucks, chain & franchise restaurants, and restaurants owned by hotels are NOT eligible.

  • The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved a $30 million Hospitality Industry Grant Program. The goal of the program is to provide financial assistance to local independently owned and operated restaurants and non-home-based caterers impacted by COVID-19. priority will be given to businesses that have not been approved or received funds from any institution under the Paycheck Protection Program Loan (PPP) or other federal or state assisted business loan program and have a single establishment.  The $30M HIG program will be calculated based on individual percentages of eligible costs incurred, with a maximum award of $25,000 per establishment.


  • Town of Bay Harbor Islands Police and Code Enforcement are required by Miami-Dade County to enforce rules as outlined in emergency orders as civil offenses. This includes wearing a facial covering in public spaces, both indoors and outdoors, and maintaining strict social distancing.  Violations are punishable by $100.00 fines.  Business who violate orders may be subject to $500.00 fines.  
  • Miami-Dade County is making a limited number of hotel rooms available for residents who need to isolate due to COVID-19.

Short term rentals in Bay Harbor Islands:

  • The Town of Bay Harbor Islands has issued an emergency order banning short term rentals. Vacation Rentals shall be CLOSED and PROHIBITED as of July 21, 2020
  • The Responsible Party shall cancel all existing reservations, and shall refrain from advertising, accepting new guests, or making new reservations until such time as this Order expires or is otherwise amended.

  • New Student Registration for the 2020-2021 school year is open. Please call 305-865-7912 to schedule an in-person registration appointment. You may also scan all required registration documents to Please ensure that you review the registration and immunization requirements under the information tab at prior to registering.

Community Center Information:

  • The Morris N. Broad Community Center remains closed. Library patrons may pick up pre-ordered books, DVDs and other library materials outside this and all other Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) locations. The outdoor service is available Monday - Saturday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Please visit for more information.
