SunPass Savings & Pass Plan Reminders
Florida Toll Relief ProgramEffective January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2023, the new Florida Toll Relief Program from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), will provide account credits to commuters using toll roads across the state. The program will give Floridians with 35 or more toll transactions per month a 50% credit to their account. The new law applies to all toll facilities, roads, bridges and tunnels, operated in the State of Florida, including managed lanes, expressways operated by MDX, CFX and THEA, as well as local SunPass roads and facilities in Miami-Dade County like the Venetian Causeway, the Rickenbacker Causeway and the Broad Causeway. Managed or variable toll roads like those on I-95 and I-75, are also included in the law. The program established by the Florida law is fully funded for the entire 2023 calendar year commencing January 1st.
In simplest terms any combination of toll transactions on any toll road in the State of Florida totaling 35 transactions in a calendar month will garner the customer a 50 percent toll rebate from the trust fund established within the Turnpike Enterprises for this program.
Pass Plan Reminders We are receiving greater numbers of Pass Plan applications than in years before, many of which are being rejected due to negative account balances, outstanding toll-by-plate charges and even tolls in collections. This has caused greater delays in processing applications and a need for greater scrutiny of applicants. We suggest that anyone needing to renew their Pass Plan do so at least 30+ days in advance. BUT before you do - check your SunPass account to make sure you have a positive balance! A negative balance cancels your Pass Plan and will cause your renewal to be rejected. If we cannot read your transponder - you cannot be exempted!
As stated in the terms- - Your SunPass account must reflect a positive balance without interruption.
- Your SunPass transponder must be properly mounted in/on your vehicle at all times so that it is read when using the Shepard Broad Causeway toll.
- The transponder is your sole means of access to zero-cost tolls. If the exempt Transponder is not read by the receiver in the electronic toll collection lane for any reason you are 100% responsible for that toll charge.
- License plates are not associated with your Pass Plan and license plate charges are not covered by the Pass Plan. NO REFUNDS WILL BE CONSIDERED OR GIVEN should you be charged via your license plate.
